Your hands will be sweaty; you have hot flushes on your back; you feel like it's gonna be the end of the world or an impending doom, therefore you have the need to just run somewhere safe immediately!
So what should YOU do if you have panic attacks then?
Here is the two effective tips for panic attacks:
- Distraction Technique
Think of something else immediately. Watch TV or talk to someone on the phone. - Breathing Technique
Breathe in real slowly for about 8-seconds and breathe out slowly for at least 14-seconds. Do this for at least 5-6 times. Using a paperbag helps a lot.
Unfortunately such techniques are, honestly speaking from my experience, ineffective.
You can always use these techniques but there's a 90% chance that you WILL STILL suffer a full-blown attack later.
Although there are panic attack self-help guides and tips out there, they won't really help much. Believe me.
Medications, on the other hand, are not recommended. There have been reports and evidence that people who were on antidepressants or any medications for panic attacks reported to be more violent, more prone to suicide, and more prone to committing crimes.
And keep this in mind - medications, just like home remedies, are never meant for long-term treatment.
Resorting to Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) would be the best choice.
